A direct current is an electric current that does not change in strength or direction over time. The current always moves from plus to minus and is indicated as plus (+) and minus ( - ) in the diagram. Sources of direct current are generators, galvanic cells, thermoelements, solar cells and direct current are obtained by rectification of alternating current.DC current measurement with a multimeter shema

Scheme for measuring DC current with a multimeter. The rsh shunt is an input resistance that is connected in parallel to the ammeter terminals in order to increase the measurement range.

To avoid possible damage to the instrument or the equipment being examined, check the fuses before starting current measurements. Use proper probes, operating mode, and measuring range. Never connect the test leads parallel to any circuit or element if they are inserted in the current measurement sockets.

Procedure for conducting DC current measurements with a multimeter:
  1. Turn off the current in the circuit being examined. Discharge all high - voltage capacitors.
  2. Connect the black measuring wire to the COM connector and the red one to the connector 10A.
  3. Set the rotary switch to the appropriate position in the sectors DCA.
  4. Open the circuit being examined. Connect the black measuring wire to the negative potential side of the gap, and the red wire to the positive potential side of the gap (reverse connection will result in a negative current value, but will not damage the multimeter).
  5. Turn on the current in the examined circuit and read the display. Pay attention to the unit of measurement shown on the screen( or А). If only "1" is shown on the display, this indicates that the selected measurement range is exceeded. In this case, you should switch to a larger measurement limit.
  6. Disconnect the current in the circuit being examined and discharge all high-voltage capacitors. Disconnect the test leads and restore the circuit under investigation.
